On the death of Galerius in 311AD there were four men
calling themselves Emperors - Licinius I in Asia, Daza
Maximin in Egypt, Maxentius at Rome, and Constantine in
Gaul. Valerius Licinianus Licinius served as Caesar in the
eastern empire from 317 to 324 A.D while his father was
Augustus Licinius I. The mother of Licinius II was Flavia Julia Constantia,
the sister of the Emperor Constantine the Great. His father
constantly battled against his co emperor Constantine the
Great and was finally defeated by Constantine at Chrysopolis
on 18 September 324. Licinius I abdicated but was eventually
put to death by hanging in 325. It is believed that his
father had attempted yet another rebellion against
Constantine the Great as an ally of the Goths. Licinius II
was executed AD 327 at Pola.
