Jovinus was a
Usurper of the Western Roman Empire. Jovinus started his
rise to the throne as a general of the Roman Emperor
Honorius. Jovinus assumed the imperial title AD 411. He
named his brother Sebastianus as co-emperor in 412. At first
he was successful gaining control over much of Gaul but was
attacked by both Franks and Visigoths. Jovinus was defeated
at the siege of Valence. The Visigoths captured the usurper
Jovinus, and handed him over to Postumus Dardanus, the Roman
Governor in Gaul, for execution. Honorius once again had the
upper hand.
