The Emperor Constans was put to death by
Magnentius, an
ambitious soldier, who at once assumed the name of emperor.
Magnentius gained power Britannia, Gaul, Hispania, Italia
and Africa. He was helped by a man who was believed to be
his brother -
Magnus Decentius. Decentius became a usurper to the Roman
throne having been raised to power by the Emperor Magnetius.
He was first made Consul and then Caesar in 350AD. Decentius
and Magnentius fought a final battle in
353 in the Battle of Mons Seleucus at Senonae in Gaul. Their forces were defeated
on 18 August 350. Magnentius committed suicide by
falling on his sword and
Magnus Decentius hung himself.
